PGRADING THE

OMPUTER
This chapter explains how to remove the computer cover and
install the following optional upgrade and replacement
equipment or firmware:
Expansion board
Processor upgrade
Additional memory
Graphics memory
Optional drive
The chapter also includes information about when to
reconfigure the computer to ensure that the newly installed
equipment is recognized by the computer.
To familiarize you with the process, a summary of the
installation and configuration sequence begins this chapter. It
is very important that you follow the sequence of steps to
ensure the proper installation of any optional equipment.
1. If the computer is already on, turn it off and disconnect the
power cord from the wall.
2. Disconnect the keyboard, monitor, and any other external
equipment connected to the computer.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot

surfaces, allow the internal system components to cool before
touching.
CAUTION:
Static electricity can damage the electronic
components of the computer or optional equipment. Before
beginning these procedures, ensure that you are discharged of
static electricity by briefly touching a grounded metal object. Refer
to Appendix G for more information.
