Hints/Tips
When using any application other than "FreeFlow" to call the scanner driver
(i.e., Photoshop), some GUI selections may not be available and/or may be
set to different default settings. These selections and default settings differ
from application to application.
Attempting to scan using "Production Color" into Acrobat 6.0 Professional
produces an unrecoverable error. Because Acrobat does not support the
color space emitted by the scanner for "Production Color".
Attempting to scan into Photoshop with black and white compression
enabled will result in an error message that states "Couldn't complete
import". This is because Photoshop does not support CCITT G4
compression.
When scanning a document through the feeder, a "progress meter" is
displayed, showing how many pages have been scanned and how many
images have been transferred to the FreeFlow application. The "focus" of
this window is the "Pause" button. As such, if the user inadvertently hits the
space bar (or the "Enter/Return" button), the system will stop scanning until
either "Continue" or "Cancel" is selected.
If the "Pause" button is selected while scanning a duplex job, the system
will freeze up and an "End Task" must be performed. All scans made to that
point will be lost.
When rebooting the host PC that is connected to the scanner, be sure ALL
scanning applications are closed. This includes applications that may be
open, but minimized. If ALL applications are not closed, the scanner may
produce a "51-09-99" fault code on the LEDs in the scanner, requiring the
scanner and the PC to be rebooted again.
The "Sharpness" control is more aggressive when scanning with the
"Photograph" Original Type as compared to scanning with the other original
types.
When scanning with the "Text and Line Art" Original Type at a resolution of
1200 dpi, some slightly-angled lines, particularly thinner lines, may exhibit
slight "stair-stepping" or "jaggies". Decreasing the scanning resolution to
600 dpi for this type of original, or scanning with the "Automatic" Original
Type selection eliminates this anomaly.
The feeder cannot feed A5 paper in the long-edge orientation. If the A5
paper is selected and the scan location is the feeder, you will need to re-
orient the image to a short-edge (SEF) orientation. If this is not done prior
to changing the scan location, a message noting the size limitations of the
feeder will be displayed and the page size will revert back to "8.5 x 11".
