Only fit snow chains on the rear wheels

in pairs.
* NOTE Damage to components of the vehi-
cle body or chassis due to fitted snow
chains
If you fit snow chains to the front wheels of
4MATIC vehicles, you may damage compo-
nents of the vehicle body or chassis.
Only fit snow chains to the rear wheels
#
of 4MATIC vehicles.
* NOTE Damage to wheel trims through fit-
ted snow chains
If you fit snow chains on aluminium wheels
you could damage the wheel trims.
Remove the wheel trims from the alumi-

nium wheels before fitting snow chains.
Observe the following notes when using snow
chains:
Snow chains are only permissible for certain

wheel/tyre combinations. You can obtain
information about this from a Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre.
For safety reasons, only use snow chains that
R
have been specifically approved for your vehi-
cle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains with
the same quality standard.
Comply with the installation instructions of the
R
snow chain manufacturer.
If snow chains are fitted, the maximum per-
R
missible speed is 50 km/h.
Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: do not use
R
Active Parking Assist when snow chains are
fitted.
Vehicles with AIRMATIC: if snow chains are fit-
R
ted, only drive at raised vehicle level
( page 368).

Vehicles with rear-axle steering: if snow chains
R
are fitted, only drive with Snow Chain mode
active ( page 647).

You can permanently limit the speed for driv-
ing with winter tyres ( page 330).

You can deactivate ESP to pull away
( page 319). This allows the wheels to spin,

When the function is active, the vehicle adjusts to
the fact that snow chains have been fitted. This
among other things means that the maximum
steering angle of the rear wheels is limited and
the turning circle is larger.
Moreover, some functions of the driving and driv-
ing safety systems are not available when snow
chain mode is active.
