CLEANING AND DECALCIFYING YOUR COFFEE MAKER

Cleaning Your Coffee Maker
Your West Bend coffee maker features a Clean function. After you have brewed approximately 90
carafes of coffee, the cleaning reminder will flash on the screen indicating that the coffee maker
needs to be cleaned to remove any coffee deposits. The cleaning reminder will not prevent you
from using the coffee maker; however, the message will continue to display and flash until the
coffee maker has been cleaned. It is recommended that you do so as soon as possible to prevent
further build-up of residue.
To clean your coffee maker:
1. Press the PROG button four times. The "Clean" indicator will illuminate steadily.
2. Fill the carafe with water up to the 12 cup line. Pour the water into the water reservoir.
3. Press the BREW/OFF button.
4. Once the clean cycle is complete, the unit will beep and the CLEAN light will turn OFF, before the
unit switches to stand-by mode.
5. Discard the hot water from the carafe and let the carafe cool off before washing.
6. Wash the carafe, brew basket and reusable filter in hot soapy water using a non-abrasive sponge.
Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Decalcifying Your Coffee Maker
The coffee maker must be decalcified periodically. Over time, mineral deposits build up on internal
parts affect the operation of the coffeemaker. The frequency of decalcification depends on the
hardness of your water and how often you use the coffeemaker.
Indications that decalcifying is necessary are:
1. Increased noise during brewing
2. Excessive steaming
3. Longer brewing times
4. The pumping action stops before all of the water has been pumped from the water reservoir.
Decalcification schedule should be as follows:
1. With soft water, decalcify once per year
2. With medium water, decalcify every 3 months
3. With hard water, decalcify monthly
To decalcify the unit:
1. Pour 4-cups of fresh, cool, undiluted white household vinegar into the carafe.
2. Make sure the carafe, the brew basket and reusable filter are properly positioned.
3. Press the BREW/OFF button to begin brewing.
4. Once brewing is complete, discard the content from the carafe and let the carafe cool off before
washing.
5. Fill up the carafe with water up to the 12 cup line. Pour the wate into the water reservoir. Then
press BREW/OFF.
