When cutting m aterials, alw ays w ear protective
glasses.
When finished w ith a job, pull out the plug from
the receptacle.
M OUNTING AND DISM OUNTING THE SAW
BLADE
CAUTION
To avoid serious accident, ensure the sw itch is in the
OFF position, and the pow er source is disconnected.
1. Dismounting the saw blade
(1) Set the cutting volum e at m axim um , and place the
Circular Saw as show n in Fig. 9.
(2) Depress the lock lever, lock the spindle, and rem ove
the hexagonal-socket bolt w ith the Hex. bar w rench.
(3) While holding the low er guard lever to keep the
low er guard fully retracted into the saw cover,
rem ove the saw blade.
2. M ounting the Saw Blade
(1) Th o r o u g h l y r em o v e an y saw d u st w h i ch h as
accum ulated on the spindle, bolt and w ashers.
(2) As show n in Fig. 10, the side of Washer (A) w ith
a projected center the sam e diam eter as the inner
diam eter of the saw blade and the concave side
of Washer (B) m ust be fitted to the saw blade sides.
*
Washer (A) is supplied for 2 types of saw blades
w ith the hole diam eters of 16 m m and 30 m m .
(When buying the Circular Saw , one type of
w asher (A) is supplied.)
In case the hole diam eter of your saw blade
does not correspond to that of w asher (A), please
contact the shop w here you purchased the
Circular Saw .
(3) To assure proper rotation direction of the saw blade,
the arrow direction on the saw blade m ust coincide
w ith the arrow direction on the saw cover.
(4) Using the fingers, tighten the hexagonal-socket bolt
retaining the saw blade as m uch as possible. Then
depress the lock lever, lock the spindle, and
thoroughly tighten the bolt.
CAUTION
After having attached the saw blade, reconfirm that the
lock lever is firm ly secured in the prescribed position.
M AINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
1. Inspecting the saw blade
Since use of a dull saw blade w ill degrade efficiency
and cause possible m otor m alfunction, sharpen or
replace the saw blade as soon as abrasion is noted.
2. Inspecting the mounting screw s
Regularly inspect all m ounting screw s and ensure
that they are properly tightened. Should any of the
screw s be loose, retighten them im m ediately. Failure
to do so could result in serious hazard.
3. Inspecting the carbon brushes (Fig. 11)
The m otor em ploys carbon brushes w hich are
consum able parts. Since an excessively w orn carbon
brush can result in m otor trouble, replace the carbon
brushes w ith new ones having the sam e carbon
brush No. show n in the figure w hen it becom es
w orn to or near the " w ear lim it" . In addition, alw ays
keep carbon brushes clean and ensue that they
slide freely w ithin the brush holders.
CAUTION
When replacing the new carbon brushes, alw ays
use genuine Hitachi carbon brushes w ith the num ber
specified in the draw ing.
For m odel C9BU2 , the brake m ay not w ork if other
than the specified carbon brushes are used.
When the brake becom es ineffective, replace the
carbon brushes w ith new ones.
4. Replacing carbon brushes
Disassem ble the brush caps w ith a slotted-head
screw driver. The carbon brushes can then be easily
rem oved.
5. M aintenance of the motor
The m otor unit w inding is the very " heart" of the
pow er tool.
Exercise due care to ensure the w inding does not
becom e dam aged and/or w et w ith oil or w ater.
6. Adjusting the base and saw blade to maintain
perpendicularity
The angle betw een the base and the saw blade has
b een ad j u st ed t o 90°, h o w ev er sh o u l d t h i s
perpendicularity be lost for som e reason, adjust in
the follow ing m anner:
(1) Turn the base face up (Fig. 12) and loosen the w ing-
nut and w ing-bolt (Fig. 5 (A), Fig. 5 (B)).
(2) Apply a square to the base and the saw blade and
turning the slotted set screw w ith a slotted-head
screw driver, shift the position of the base to produce
the desired right angle.

CAUTION
Repair, m odification and inspection of Hitachi Pow er
Tools m ust be carried out by an Hitachi Authorized
Service Center.
This Parts List w ill be helpful if presented w ith the
tool to the Hitachi Authorized Service Center w hen
requesting repair or other m aintenance.
In the operation and m aintenance of pow er tools,
the safety regulations and standards prescribed in
each country m ust be observed.
M ODIFICATIONS
