ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR
ALL SAWS WITH RIVING KNIFE
a) Use the appropriate riving knife for the blade
being used.
For the riving knife to w ork, it m ust be thicker than
the body of the blade but thinner than the tooth
set of the blade.
b) Adjust t he riving knife as described in t his
instruction manual.
Incorrect spacing, positioning and alignm ent can
m ake the riving knife ineffective in preventing
kickback.
c) Alw ays use the riving knife except w hen plunge
cutting.
Riving knife m ust be replaced after plunge cutting.
Riving knife causes interference during plunge
cutting and can create kickback.
d) For the riving knife to w ork, it must be engaged
in the w orkpiece.
Th e r i v i n g kn i f e i s i n ef f ect i v e i n p r ev en t i n g
kickback during short cuts.
e) Do not operate the saw if riving knife is bent.
Even a light interference can slow the closing rate
of a guard.
PRECAUTIONS ON USING CIRCULAR SAW
1.
Do not use saw blades w hich are deform ed or
cracked.
2.
Do not use saw blades m ade of high speed steel.
3.
Do not use saw blades w hich do not com ply w ith
the characteristics specified in these instructions.
4.
Do not stop the saw blades by lateral pressure
on the disc.

Alw ays keep the saw blades sharp.

Ensure that the low er guard sm oothly and freely.
7.
Never use the circular saw w ith its low er guard
fixed in the open position.
8.
Ensure that the retraction m echanism of the guard
system operates correctly.
9.
The saw blades body m ust be thinner than the
riving knife and the w idth of cut, or kerf (w ith
teeth set) m ust be greater than the thickness of
the riving knife.
10. Never operate the circular saw w ith the saw blade
turned upw ard or to the side.
11. Ensure that the m aterial is free of foreign m atters
such as nails.
12. The riving knife should alw ays be used except
w hen plunging in the m iddle of the w orkpiece.
13. For m odels C9U2 and C9BU2, the saw blades
should be 235 m m .
14. For m odel C9BU2, be careful of brake kickback.
C9BU2 m odel features an electric brake that
functions w hen the sw itch is released. As there
is som e kickback w hen the brake functions, be
sure to hold the m ain body securely.
15. Sparks can som etim es appear caused by braking
operation w hen the sw itch is turned off since
C9BU2 m odel em ploy electric brakes. Be inform ed,
how ever, that this phenom enon is not a m achine
trouble.
16. For m odel C9BU2, w hen the brake becom es
ineffective, replace the carbon brushes w ith new
ones.
17. Disconnect the plug from the receptacle before
car r y i n g o u t an y ad j u st m en t , ser v i ci n g o r
m aintenance.
