SECTION 9 TROUBLESHOOTING
TABLE 9-1: Boiler Troubleshooting Procedures
Fault
Probable Causes
Defective Ignition switch.
2.
Defective Power Supply Board or
3.
fuse.
Defective IGST Board.
4.
Interlock jumper not installed or
1.
removed.
Energy Management System does
2.
not have unit enabled.
INTERLOCK
OPEN
Device proving switch hooked to
3.
interlocks is not closed.
Line and Neutral switched in AC
1.
Power Box.
LINE VOLTAGE
Incorrect power supply transformer
2.
OUT OF PHASE
wiring.
Incorrect supply gas pressure.
1.
LOW GAS
Defective Low Gas Pressure switch.
2.
PRESSURE
Insufficient water level in system.
1.
Defective water level circuitry.
2.
LOW WATER
LEVEL
Defective water level probe.
3.
MODBUS
Unit not seeing information from
COMMFAULT
Modbus network.
Corrective Action
If the Air/Fuel Valve does rotate to the ignition
2.
position, check the ignition position switch for
continuity between the N.O. and COM terminals
when in contact with the cam.
Check DS1 & DS2 LEDs on Power Supply Board. If
3.
they are not steady ON, replace Power Supply
Board.
Check "Heartbeat" LED DS1 and verify it is
4.
blinking ON & OFF every second. If not, replace
IGST Board.
Check for a jumper properly installed across the
1.
interlock terminals in the I/O box.
If there are two external wires on these terminals
2.
check any Energy Management system to see if
they have the units disabled (a jumper may be
temporarily installed to see if the interlock circuit
is functioning).
Check that proving switch for any device hooked
3.
to the interlock circuit is closing and that the
device is operational.
Check hot and neutral in AC Power Box to ensure
1.
they are not reversed.
Check transformer wiring, in AC Power Box,
2.
against the power box transformer wiring
diagram to ensure it is wired correctly.
Measure gas pressure upstream of the SSOV
1.
Actuator(s) with the unit firing. Ensure it is above
the value in Table 4-2 (Natural Gas).
Measure gas pressure at the Low Gas Pressure
2.
switch. If it is greater than 1 inch above the Low
Gas Pressure switch setting in Table 4-2 (Natural
Gas) measure continuity across the switch and
replace if necessary.
Check system for sufficient water level.
1.
Test water level circuitry using the Low Water
2.
TEST and RESET buttons on the Controller's front
panel. Replace water level circuitry if it does not
respond.
Check continuity of probe end to the shell,
3.
change probe if there is no continuity.
Check network connections. If fault persists,
contact qualified Service Personnel.
