If the vehicle is operated for a lengthy period with play in the steering head bearing, the bearings and the
bearing seats in the frame can become damaged over time.

Adjusting steering head bearing play

Preparatory work
Deactivate the vehicle. (
Fold the seat up. (
Remove the KTM PowerPack. (
Mount the protection cap. (
Raise the motorcycle with a lift stand. (
Main work
Move the handlebar to the straight-ahead position. Move the
fork legs to and fro in the direction of travel.
Play should not be detectable on the steering head bearing.

If there is detectable play:
Adjust steering head bearing play.
Move the handlebar to and fro over the entire steering range.
It must be possible to move the handlebar easily over the

entire steering range. There should be no detectable detent
positions.

If detent positions are detected:
Adjust steering head bearing play.

If detent positions can still be detected:
Change the steering head bearing.
Finishing work
Remove the motorcycle from the lift stand. (
Install the KTM PowerPack. (
Lock the seat. (
Preparatory work
Deactivate the vehicle. (
Fold the seat up. (
Remove the KTM PowerPack. (
Mount the protection cap. (
Raise the motorcycle with a lift stand. (
Main work
Loosen screws
Loosen and retighten screw
Guideline
Screw, top steering
head
Using a plastic hammer, tap lightly on the upper triple clamp
to avoid stresses.
