5.10 Automatic smoke evacuation system/function
(when using the electrosurgical generator or the
ultrasonic generator)

 When the flow resistance of the connected instrument is

Ensure that the tubes and the foot switch are connected properly as
described in Sections 3.9, "Connecting the insufflation tube and suction
tube" on page 58 and 3.5, "Connecting the foot switch (MAJ-1939)" on
page 44.

Confirm that the smoke evacuation mode is not "OFF". If it is "OFF", switch it
to "High" or "low" (refer to Section 5.6, "Selecting the smoke evacuation
mode" on page 82).

Perform normal insufflation operation until the cavity pressure rises to the
desired level (refer to Section 5.8, "Insufflation" on page 85).
4.
If smoke or mist is produced inside the cavity, press the foot switch to
perform smoke evacuation.
Smoke is most effectively evacuated if smoke evacuation is performed
simultaneously with smoke generation.
5.
To stop smoke evacuation, release the foot switch.
6.
Reselect the smoke evacuation mode to change the smoke evacuation flow
rate as required (refer to Section 5.6, "Selecting the smoke evacuation
mode" on page 82).
When this instrument is used in combination with the Olympus UES-40
electrosurgical generator or USG-400 or Sonosurg-G2 ultrasonic generator, this
instrument can execute insufflation into and suction from the cavity
simultaneously to exhaust and remove the generated smoke and mist during the
high-frequency or ultrasonic output while maintaining the cavity pressure
constant.
HIGH FLOW INSUFFLATION UNIT UHI-4
large, or when the suction capacity of the wall suction
system is low, the smoke evacuation function may
become inoperative to maintain the safety of the
operation. Use an instrument with low flow resistance.
