1. Prepare the Installation Site

Cabling Infrastructure - Make sure that the cabling infrastruc-

ture meets the necessary network specifications. Because of the
HP Auto-MDIX feature, for connections to end nodes
(computers, servers, printers and other peripherals), or connec-
tions to hubs or other switches, you can use "straight-through"
cables. "Crossover" cables can also be used for any of these
connections. See the following table for cable types and lengths,
and see appendix B, "Cables and Connectors" for more informa-
tion:

Installation Location - Before installing the switch, plan its
location and orientation relative to other devices and equipment.
At the front of the switch, leave at least 7.6 cm (3 inches) of space
for the twisted-pair cabling. At the back of the switch, leave at
least 2.6 cm (1 inch) of space for the adapter's power cord.

ever want to upgrade the ports to
