Chapter 11: Quality Validation Process

A two-step process is required to ensure the imagePRESS C750 is making high-quality
prints after installation has been complete. The process involves:

A visual inspection/comparison of image quality
-
Measurement of color quality
The role of Canon Technicians in this process is to:
-
Participate as an observer in the visual inspection/comparison
-
Participate as an observer in the color quality measurement step (PPA
Verification Print)
-
Resolve any image quality problems that have been found.
Quality Validation Visual Inspection/Comparison
The Center Manager prints the Quality Validation Proof ("Narrow Format Validation
Proof v1" file) from PPA on the imagePRESS C750 being tested using 11x17, 24lb
laser paper.
A Validation Master print has been provided to all FedEx Office Centers by FSO
Note:
(FedEx Support Organization).
The Center Manager should lay the Validation Proof next to the Validation Master on
a flat surface, preferably one with even lighting. Visually inspect and compare the
Validation Proof to the Validation Master looking at each section for the following:
 Solids: There should be no mottled appearance, graininess or any other visual
defect
 Gradients: There should be no banding or streaks.
 Registration: Lines should be solid black with no other colors showing.
 Resolution: All lines should be printing, be straight and no stair stepping.
 Image Position: The green mark should be showing at each corner.
 CMYK Images and RGB Images: The images should be visually similar to the
Validation Master.
 Spot Color: A correct spot color target should be a solid purple square.
 Font Size: The smallest readable type should be the same size as the smallest
readable type on the Validation Master.
 Moire: The lines should be sharp and straight, no patterns.
 Gray Balance: The gray squares and circles should be the same color as the
squares and circles on the Validation Master.
 PPA Verification: Confirms if the file was printed through the PPA workflow.
 Gray Scale: The image should be visually similar to the Validation Master.
 Uniformity: Gray bars should be even and consistent across the page. No light
or dark areas.
