WORKHOLDING AND AUTOMATION

1. Safety

a) Dangers of Incorrect Use:
All persons, working, using or maintaining the magnetic chucks have to be qualified and must
have read and understood the operating instructions. The operating instruction includes all
information relating to safe operating of the magnetic chucks. It is not only necessary for
proper operation it is also important for your safety.
For persons with active implants or ferromagnetic implanted parts, it must be individually
decided along with their physician whether they are allowed to work with magnets. Persons
with cardiac pacemakers are not allowed to work within magnetic fields.
For usage of magnetic chucks, you have to look up to the dangers for electronic devices,
computers, swatches and data carriers.
Electro-magnetic chucks are working with high magnetizing and demagnetizing voltages.
Because of this fact, the electric connection has to be protected from any damage. To exclude
dangers for the operator, especially for wet-cutting or after maintenance, the fitted sealing
of electric connection is important. The electric connection has to be made by a licensed
electrician and be properly grounded.
For setting up the work piece in a magnetized situation, there is the danger of pinching
fingers. Always position work pieces while not magnetized.

b) Specifications of Correct Use:

The named specific holding forces are on a chuck which is calculated using a test piece,
size 100x100x40mm out of St 37 with ground surface. In other cases, the holding forces
must be reduced drastically. The usage should be limited to the down rated forces in other
cases, please contact the manufacturer. The chucks should only be operated by a control
with the proper wattage and voltage.
According to these facts also consider the operating instructions for the electronic control!
For use also consider accident prevention laws. Repair work is only allowed to be done by
the manufacturer.
The use is limited to the listed conditions. In other cases please contact the manufacturer:
- Avoid air-gaps between work piece and pole-plate, caused by uneven or dirty surfaces.
remove any burrs.
- Avoid thin work pieces.
- Avoid small contact surfaces between work piece and magnet.
- If possible, use work pieces with a high alloying contribution of ferromagnetic material
(Fe or Co e.g.). The holding forces will be reduced in a large amount by stainless steel,
cast iron or a high alloying
It is possible to drill tap holes or threads into the pole plate to fit bolts separate pole plates
or drill sinks. Holes are possible at defined positions. Please ask the manufacturer any time,
if alterations are needed. Improper alterations can destroy the magnet.
