STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION

Remove the wheel.

Remove bolts (1) and move rack and pinion (2) to allow clearance for the bolt (3) (Figure 7-23, Page 7-23)
and (Figure 7-24, Page 7-24).
5.
Remove the bolt (4) and tapered washer (5) from the top of the spindle (6) (Figure 7-24, Page 7-24).
6.
Remove the nut (7) and bolt (8).
7.
Remove the bolt (3).
8.
Remove the control arm (9).

LIFTED CONTROL ARM INSTALLATION

1.
Install the control arm in reverse order of removal. Tighten the control arm bolt (3) to 30 lb·ft (41 N·m) (Figure
7-24, Page 7-24).
2.
Tighten the rod end (10) to 81 lb·ft (110 N·m) (Figure 7-24, Page 7-24).
3.
Tighten three rack and pinion mounting bolts (1) to 22 lb·ft (30 N·m) (Figure 7-23, Page 7-23).
4.
Tighten the shock absorber bolt (8) to 29 lb·ft (39 N·m) (Figure 7-24, Page 7-24).
5.
Tighten the spindle bolt (4) to 118 lb·ft (160 N·m) (Figure 7-24, Page 7-24).
6.
Install the wheels and adjust the wheel alignment as instructed on page 7-6.
7.
Electric Vehicle: Connect batteries. See Connecting the Batteries – Electric Vehicles, Section 1, Page 1-4.
Gasoline Vehicle: Connect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Connecting the Battery- Gasoline Vehicles
on page 1-3.
