Statement 1029 Blank Faceplates and Cover Panels
Blank faceplates and cover panels serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous voltages
and currents inside the chassis; they contain electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt other
equipment; and they direct the flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system unless all
cards, faceplates, front covers, and rear covers are in place.

Before you begin:
Before replacing a Switch Card (SC), you must perform a graceful shutdown of the card to avoid disk corruption.
Use one of the following procedures to perform graceful shutdown of the card:
• unscrew the captive screws and open ejector handles to trigger auto-shutdown of the card, and then verify
that the Status LED is in Off state.
• use the shutdown location location command in admin EXEC mode to shutdown the card. Then use
the show platform command to verify that the Status LED is in Off state.
