BELTS
WARNING: Moving parts can cut
or amputate body parts. ALWAYS
wait for moving parts to stop
before performing maintenance or
service.
CAUTION: Damaged or worn
belts may result in injury and/or
damage to unit. Check belts for
excessive wear or cracks often.
CAUTION: Use care when
releasing idler spring tension.
Keep body parts well away from
idlers when performing this
operation.
Belt Access
(Figure 24)
1. Stop unit, engage parking brake, remove
key and wait for moving parts to stop
and hot parts to cool (see Operation on
page 14).
2. Open front belt access panel.
3. Lower the mower deck.
4. Loosen retaining knobs on left and right
belt guards and remove belt guards from
deck.

PTO Mower Belt Replacement
(Figure 26 and Figure 27)
1. Gain access to belts (see Belt Access on
page 32).
2. Remove transmission belt (see
Figure 27).
3. Release tension from idler pulley.
4. Remove PTO mower belt from clutch
and then from sheaves.
5. Install new PTO mower belt on clutch
and then on sheaves.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that correct sheave is
used based on deck height setup:
Low (1.5 – 4" or 38 – 102 mm)
position: Use top sheave.
High (2.5 – 5" or 64 – 127 mm)
position: Use middle sheave.
1. Use when deck is in low setting.
2. Use when deck is in high setting.
6. Reinstall transmission belt.
7. Adjust spring to length of 11.75 – 12"
(29.8 – 30.5 cm) in 3.75 (90)/2.75 (70)
deck height of cut.
8. Verify that there are no twists in belts
and that they are routed correctly.
9. Replace belt guards and close belt
access panel.
