BEFORE OPERATION

Fuel Type & Filling the Tank
IMPORTANT: Do not use unapproved fuels, such
as E15 and E85. Do not mix oil in fuel or modify the
engine to run on alternate fuels. Use of unapproved
fuels will damage the engine components, which will
not be covered under warranty.
IMPORTANT: To reduce starting problems, add fuel
treatment (111-9368) to the fuel all season, mixing it
with fuel less than 30 days old.
Fuel stabiliser and engine oil are both available to
purchase from your Authorised Hayter Service Dealer.

IMPORTANT: Fuel can damage paint and some types
of plastic. Be careful not to spill fuel when fi lling
your fuel tank. Damage caused by spilled fuel is not
covered under the engine warranty.
Never use fuel that is stale, contaminated, or mixed
with oil. Avoid getting dirt or water in the fuel tank.
Fuel must meet these requirements:
Clean, fresh, unleaded.
A minimum of 87 octane.

Fuel with up to 10% ethanol is acceptable.
When adding fuel:
Turn engine off and let engine cool for at least 2
minutes before removing the fuel cap.
Fill fuel tank outdoors or in well-ventilated area.
Keep fuel away from sparks, open fl ames, pilot
lights, heat, and other ignition sources.
Check fuel lines, tank, cap, and fi ttings frequently
for cracks or leaks. Replace if necessary.
If fuel spills, wait until it evaporates before starting
engine.
1. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.
2. Clean the fuel cap area of dirt and debris. Remove
the fuel cap.
3. Fill the fuel tank with fuel. To allow for expansion
of the fuel, do not fi ll above the bottom of the fuel
fi ller neck.

4. Reinstall the fuel cap.
5. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position before
restarting the mower.

Checking the Engine-Oil Level

Refer to Setup - Engine Oil Specifi cations to ensure
you are using the correct grade of oil.
Before adding or checking the oil, ensure the engine is
level and the oil fi ll area is clear of debris.
1. Unscrew the dipstick (1) from the oil fi ll neck and
2. Insert back into the oil fi ll neck but do not tighten
3. Remove the dipstick (1) and check the oil level.
4. Re-insert the dipstick (1) into the oil fi ll neck and

IMPORTANT: If the oil level in the engine is too low or
too high and you run the engine, you may damage the
engine.
