Figure 6: Rigging and Handling
Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to rig loads or operate
load rated cranes and/or hoist assemblies. Do not use a forklift to lift or
maneuver the unit. Failure to use a load rated crane or hoist assembly to lift
or maneuver the unit can cause severe personal injury and property damage.
Use all lifting points. Improper lifting can cause property damage, severe
personal injury, or death.
Lifting points may not be symmetrical to the center of
gravity of the unit . Ballast or unequal cable lengths may be required.
Unit is equipped with fork slot reenforcement pieces. These need to be
removed before unit is set on the curb.
Rigging holes for shackles are integral on the unit base.
Ensure proper shackle and strap positioning inside lug point.
See
Figure 7
for incorrect and correct shackle rigging. The
straps need to be installed along the clevis pin or the bolt pin to
avoid stressing the base rail and panels
Figure 7: Incorrect/Correct Shackle Rigging
While rigging, minor deformation to the base rail may be
observed. This minor deformation around the lifting point in the
base rail does not affect the safety of the lift.
Spreader bars must be used during rigging. Avoid twisting or
uneven lifting of the unit. The cable length from the bracket to
the hook should always be longer than the distance between
the outer lifter points. The length of the spreader bars shall be
4-8" longer than the width of the unit to prevent damage to the
drip edge.
Do not use self-leveling pulleys as they cause the unit to rack
when lifted off the truck before they level. An improper lift can
cause door frames and/or mechanical dampers to get out of
square and result in possible operational issues.
If the unit is stored at the construction site for an intermediate
period, take these additional precautions:
1 . Support the unit well along the length of the base rail.
2 . Level the unit (no twists or uneven ground surface).
3 . Provide proper drainage around the unit to prevent
