PROFIBUS Master and Slave
1.2
Sample Network
The sample configuration in this manual will build a network similar to the
following illustration. Steps for adding additional Wireless PROFIBUS Slaves and
Masters can be found after the initial setup routine is explained.
The ProLinx Wireless PROFIBUS Slave will be connected through the
PROFIBUS cable directly to your PROFIBUS master device. The ProLinx slave
device will then communicate wirelessly to a remote ProLinx Wireless
PROFIBUS Master device, which will be wired to your remote PROFIBUS slave
devices.
This model allows you to easily attach one or more remote slave devices to a
master device wirelessly without worrying about how the slow transmission rates
or timeouts in the token rotation common to wired PROFIBUS communication.
This is accomplished by using the ProSoft Wireless Protocol (PWP) to handle the
wireless transmission between our gateway devices. The gateway devices
handle the movement between PROFIBUS packets and PWP for wireless
transfer through the use of a common database. This allows the remote master
gateway to act as a data concentrator for the slave devices attached to it. It then
reports that data wirelessly to the slave, which will in turn relay it to your master
device during the rotation.
