Introduction

Batteries are recharged in the order in which they are inserted. The MH-26 is equipped with battery calibration feature and charge lamps that glow, blink, or turn off according to the battery charge state.

Calibration
Calibration allows precise measurement of battery charge, ensuring that the battery level can be displayed more accurately.

EN-EL18 Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries
EN-EL18 rechargeable Li-ion batteries can transmit information on battery state when connected to compatible devices.
Before use, read the warnings and other information in this manual and in the documentation for your Nikon EN-EL18 rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Safety Precautions

To ensure proper operation, read this manual thoroughly before using this product. After reading, be sure to keep it where it will be read by all those who use the product.

Precautions for Use: MH-26 Battery Charger

The Nikon MH-26 battery charger can be used to charge Nikon EN-EL18 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries only. It can not be used with other batteries.

  • Charge indoors at ambient temperatures between 5 and 35°C (41 to 95°F).
  • The temperature of some parts of the device may become elevated while it is plugged in. Maintaining contact with the device for prolonged periods could result in low-temperature burns.
  • Do not use this product with non-compatible batteries.
  • Unplug the power cable from the power outlet when not in use.
  • Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Do not use with travel converters or adapters designed to convert from one voltage to another or with DC-to-AC inverters. Failure to observe this precaution could damage the product or cause overheating or fire.

Precautions for Use: Nikon EN-EL18 Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries

The internal temperature of the batt ery may rise while the battery is in use, espec ially when the ambient temperature is high. If you attempt to recharge the battery while the internal temperature is elevated, the battery will not charge or will charge only partially. The battery may also not function properly. Wait for the battery to cool before charging.

  • The battery is not fully charged at the factory. Charge the battery before use.
  • When recharging the battery, the ambient temperature should be between 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) or the battery may not fully charge or may not function properly.
  • The battery will not charge if its temperature is below 0°C (32°F) or above 60°C (140°F). Capacity may be reduced and charging times may increase at battery temperatures from 0°C to 15°C (32°F to 59°F) and from 45°C to 60°C (113°F to 140°F).
  • The internal temperature of the battery may rise while the battery is in use. Attempting to charge the battery while the internal temperature is elevated will impair battery performance, and the battery may not charge or may charge only partially. Wait for the battery to cool before charging.
  • Do not attempt to recharge a fully-charged battery. Failure to ob-serve this precaution will result in re duced battery performance.
  • Should you notice smoke or an unusual smell coming from the charger, unplug it, taking care to avoid burns. Take the charger to a Nikon-authorized service representative for inspection.

Charging Nikon EN-EL18 Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries

(Figure 2; illustration shows EN-EL18 inserted in chamber L. The procedure for charging batteries in chamber R is the identical.)
Charging Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries
Figure 2
The external appearance of the MH-26 may diff er slightly from the illustration depending on the coun try or area of purchase.

  1. Plug the AC adapter plug into the charg er (Figure 2-a).
  2. Plug the wall plug into a power outlet. All lamps will remain off.
  3. Insert the battery (terminals first), aligning the end of the battery with the guide and then sliding the battery in the direction indicated until it clicks into place (Figure 2-b).
Charging will begin when the battery is inserted.
    The Charge and Calibration Lamps
There is one set of charge lamps, while each chamber has its own chamber and calibration lamps and calibration button. The chamber and charge lamps blink while the battery recharges:
    The Charge and Calibration Lamps
Charge state Chamber lamp Charge lamps
    50% 80% 100%
Less than 50% of maximum capacity Blinks Blinks Off Off
50–80% of maximum capacity Blinks Glows Blinks Off
More than 80% but less than 100% of maximum capacity Blinks Glows Glows Blinks
100% of maximum capacity Glows Off Off Off

If a calibration lamp blinks, the battery in that chamber needs to be calibrated to ensure that its charge state can be accurately measured. To begin calibration, press the calibration button for the indicated chamber for about a second. When calibration is complete, the calibration and charge lamps will turn off and charging will begin immediately. The time needed to calibrate the battery is shown as follows:

Approximate time needed to recalibrate battery Calibration lamp Charge lamps
    2h 4h 6h
Over 6 hours Glows Glows Glows Glows
4–6 hours Glows Glows Glows Off
2–4 hours Glows Glows Off Off
Under 2 hours Glows Off Off Off

Although calibration is recommended for accurate measurement of battery charge state, calibration need not be performed when the calibration lamp blinks. Once begun, calibration can be interrupted as desired.

    • If the calibration button is not pressed while the calibration lamp is blinking, normal charging will begin after about ten seconds.
    • To interrupt calibration, press the calibration button again. Calibration will end and charging will begin.

    Charging Two Batteries
The MH-26 charges only one battery at a time. If batteries are inserted in both chambers, they will be charged in the order inserted. If the calibration button for the first battery is pressed, the second battery can not be calibrated or charged until calibration and charging of the first battery are complete.

  1. When charging is complete, slide the battery out of the charger in the reverse direction to that shown in Figures 2-b. Unplug the charger.
When the charger is not in use, replace the contact protectors to prevent dust from accumulating on the charger contacts.

Battery Warning

If the chamber and calibration lamps fl ash on and off in sequence when no battery is inserted, there is a problem with the charger. If the chamber and calibration lamps fl ash on and off in sequence when a battery is inserted, a problem has occurred with the battery or charger during charging. Remove the battery, unplug the charger, and take the battery and charger to a Nikonauthorized service representative for inspection.
