Controlling the system
The Crystalio II / Action! model three 1080 combination can be controlled in
a number of ways. Most apparent is using the remote control that is supplied
with the processor itself. Stylish in design and appearance, and keeping the
number of keys to a minimum, the remote has a backlit keypad that aids use
in the dark.
Custom made for projectiondesign is the control interface between the
Crystalio II and the projector. Connecting the two via RS232 allows use of
a single remote control and menu system to operate both units, and control
every setting on both. Projector specific features, such as lens control, IRIS
and aperture settings, etc., are avaialble from the Crystalio II's menu system,
under "System / Projector Control". This allows users to only navigate and
get familiar with a single remote and menu system.
It is also possible to control the two units independently over RS232 from an
external control system from for instance AMX or Crestron. In addition, the
Action! model three 1080 can be controlled via TCP / IP in the same system.
It should be noted that connecting the two via RS232 for a dedicated local
control via the supplied remote control, makes global control (via a dedicated
control system) over RS232 impossible, as there is only one port on each
unit. A future software upgrade will enable control over TCP / IP at the same
time as local control is in use.
High End appearance and build quality
As befits any high end device for consumer use, the Crystalio II is distinctive-
ly so. With the sleek and nicely looking remote control as the main interface,
it comes across as a quality device. This feeling continues when opening the
menu system, with nice, balanced colours and fonts, and a nice layout. The
menu can be set to translucent to allow one to see the contents behind, and
features animated opening and closing of sub menus for a pleasant experi-
ence.
More importantly, the Crystalio II mechanical casing has a very high quality
feel to it. With a massive, 1cm thick brushed aluminium front plate, available
in both silver and black finishes, a heavy chassis, and super high quality con-
nectors, the unit is decidedly high end from a fit and feel point of view. The
units also come with 19" rack mounts as standard, so easily fits into both
domestic and professional installations.
