Scaling, video processing, etc..
The Crystalio II will process and forward all incoming signals to the projec-
tor, processed and scaled up to it's native 1920 x 1080 resolution. This will
be the same whether the input is standard TV or DVD signals at 480i or 576i
(NTSC or PAL), or whether the input is High Definition, 1080i or 720p.
The Crystalio II includes two separate deinterlacers. The familiar Faroudja®
FLI2310 can be used for processing of standard defintion sources, but
the real icing on the cake is the new VXP™ by Gennum video processor.
Traditionally used in broadcast processing equipment, it is now available
for consumer and professional use. It handles HDTV sources at ease, and
performs all the functions a videophile or professional can ever ask for. See
the brochure for more detail. For SD sources, the user can select which one
he prefers (default is the VXP™), but for HD sources, the VXP™ is the only
option. The simple reason is that it is the only one capable of handling proper
deinterlacing of HDTV sources! More information on the VXP™ processor and
it's features can be found on www.gennum.com/vxp.
Audio processing and management
Most people want the least possible hassle with their systems, and their
setups. That goes for consumers as well as for professionals. When using
the Crystalio II as an input source switcher, the unit can also handle au-
dio sources and switching. Not pure audio sources, but audio that comes
from the video source. For instance, if a DVD-player, a set-top box (STB) or
gaming console all are connected to the processor, one would like to also
connect the audio through it. Doing this, only a single digital cable will be
needed from the Crystalio II to the preamp / surround processor in the audio
system, reducing the need for multiple digital connections. The Crystalio II
will handle audio delay ("lip synch") for each source individally, so that it is
possible to perfectly synch audio with the video picture, no matter what the
content or processing dealy time is. It is of course also possible to connect
all audio sources directly to the preamp / surround processor, and handle the
audio delay there, like in normal systems.
Media playback
The Crystalio II includes some very interesting features that are less talked
about. From a built-in hard drive (Pro version only), or from an external USB
2.0 or a networked hard drive, the processor can play back media files. This
includes High Definition files, and can be used as a perfect demo tool in envi-
ronments where broadcast HD is not readily available.
