What does the Crystalio II do?
"Video processor" or "front end" are actually the two most useful expressions
above. Both refer to the Crystalio II as much more than the others. In com-
bination with the Action! model three 1080, for instance, the entire front end
has been moved out of the projector cabinet to the external processor. This
means that a large part of all signal processing and managment takes place
in the Crystalio II. Thus, the processor takes care a whole lot of important
processes:
• Video source detection and switching
• Deinterlacing and scaling
• Projector control and management
• Audio source detection and processing
• Media playback and processing
• Menu system access and image adjustments
• etc.
In simple terms, this means that to experience the same kind of connectivity
and configurability as with our other projectors, the Crystalio II processor is
needed in the signal chain.
As can be seen from the figure, the Crystalio II works as the source connec-
tion hub, and allows all kinds of sources to be connected. This includes new
interfacing such as SDI (Serial Digital Interface - a high quality professional
interface) for both HD and SD sources, IEEE1394 (FireWire, a high qual-
ity digital interface used by digital video cameras and the Apple part of the
world), as well as 4x HDCP-compatible DVI/HDMI inputs, and a whole range
of analogue inputs. These input options makes the Crystalio II the most com-
prehensive and compatible connection system of any available.
From the Crystalio II to the Action! model three 1080, only a single link of
connection is needed for basic operation. This link is a HDMI-to-DVI cable
that can be as long as up to 25m / 75ft. This cable will carry a 1920x1080
progressive signal, processed in the Crystalio II. In addition, for projector
control, a similar length RS232 cable should be connected. This will give full
access to all functions of the projector, through the same menu interface as
that of the Crystalio II.
