SWITCH INPUT WIRING

The following inputs are dedicated to specific functions when the parameter settings are as shown:

EXTERNAL PRECHARGE RESISTOR

When precharge is enabled, output driver 3 (pin 4) is dedicated to the external precharge relay. The
relay coil must be rated for operation at 12 V dc. The contacts of the relay should be rated for the
appropriate high power voltage and a current rating of 5 A.
The external precharge resistor must have a nominal resistance of 40 to 50 Ohms, with a tolerance
of ± 10% or less. The continuous power rating must be at least 20 Watts, and the short time overload
power rating must be at least 100 Watts for 5 seconds. An internal algorithm protects the precharge
resistor from overheating.
NOTICE
If the wrong resistor is used, damage could result.

LOW POWER CIRCUIT SPECIFICATIONS

The input/output circuits wired to the 35-pin connector can be grouped by type as follows; their
electrical characteristics are discussed below.
• Low Power Ground
• Digital Inputs
• Digital and PWM Outputs
• Analog Inputs
• Analog Output
• Power Supply Outputs
• KSI and Coil Return Inputs
• Throttle and Brake Inputs
• Communications Ports I/O
• Position Feedback Inputs
Low Power Ground
A low power ground must be provided from the external 12V power ground source. This 12V-ground
is used for all low power circuits, and must also be connected to the vehicle chassis (or the 12V-ground
reference plane in the case of composite vehicles). In order to maintain electrical isolation, do not
connect this 12V-ground to the high power battery ground (B–). If splices are made to the low power
source's ground wire, they should be made near the controller connector pin 7.
