Instructions for the installation and
commissioning of Power Xpert IGX
medium-voltage switchgear

4.8.4. Installing the main bus insulating sheath

Apply provided silicone grease evenly to the insulating surface of
one end of the Main Bus insulating sheath immediately before
installation to prevent contamination. Slide the main bus insulating
sheath over the main bus link with greased side facing the bushing.
Clean any silicone grease off the exposed end of the main bus link
with the provided special cleaning wipes.
N
ote:
Recommended amounts of silicone grease for various connections
types can be found in Table 4.

4.8.5. Additional phases

Repeat 4.8.2, 4.8.3, and 4.8.4 for each phase.

4.8.6. Install width setting members

Install two width setting members located at the top of the pole
units using two bolts.

4.8.7. Preparing the main bus insulating sheath for coupling

Apply provided silicone grease to gray area of the exposed end of
each main bus insulating sheath.

4.8.8. Coupling shipping splits

Draw shipping splits together ensuring that alignment pins in the
frame are going into the holes on the opposite frame. As pins
begin engaging, main bus links should be engaging with main bus
bushings.
N
ote:
If bus links are not perpendicular to tanks, they can catch on internal
edges of bushings and damage main bus bushings.
When the units are fully together, the width setting members will
be contacting the corresponding mounting points. There will be
approximately 6mm of clearance between the frames of the two
vertical structures. Install remaining two bolts into width setting
members and torque.

4.9. Installing control, secondary and auxiliary wiring

Refer to the project schematic and wiring diagrams for information
on wiring connections. Reconnect the wiring that was disconnected
at the factory for shipping. The wiring as well as the connecting
points are labeled. Check all wiring connections for tightness.

4.10. Bolting adjacent shipping groups

The inter-unit tie fasteners to join the shipping groups together must
be installed and properly tightened.
In general, installing Power Xpert IGX switchgear follows this
sequence (refer to the customer drawings for switchgear lineup
details):
1.
Secure a first vertical section or shipping group to the
foundation
2.
Install main bus links in the first section or group phase tanks
3.
Position the next vertical section or shipping group next to the
one just secured, tie bolt the adjacent sections together, and
secure the added section or group to the foundation.
4.
Install main bus links in the next section or group exposed
phase tanks
5.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 as needed
Attachment hardware
Use the following through-hardware to attach Power Xpert IGX
shipping groups or vertical sections together. Each attachment will

consist of
M8-1.25 x 30lg Socket Head Cap Screw
M8 wide flat washer (under head of screw)
M8 wide flat washer (on nut side)
M8 split lock washer (on nut side)
M8 hex nut

4.10.1. Attachment hardware bolt tightening torque

Use standard screws with a metric class 8.8 (ISO grade 5) or higher.
Recommended tightening torque for this hardware is 26 Nm (19.2
ft-lb), with no lubricant required.
See Figure 27 for guidance on attaching shipping groups or vertical
sections. 53 bolt, washer, lock washer and nut combinations are
required for attachment.

4.11. Assembly checklist

The following installation and attachment instructions are set up in a
checklist format to facilitate the process.
Locate the first vertical section or shipping group on its
F
foundation
N
ote:
Vertical sections intended as end vertical sections will be shipped with
end sheets mounted on their intended outside walls. Refer to the
project drawings for lineup details.
Position the vertical section on the cable vault foundation according
to the project lineup arrangement drawings. See section 4.7.
Anchoring shipping groups to the foundation. Refer to Figure 10
for details on vault rail flatness and level.
Anchor the vertical section to its foundation
F
See Figure 10 and the project drawings for the details of attaching
Power Xpert IGX vertical sections to the system foundation. Use the
hardware and torque specified.
