2.6. Storage

If the Power Xpert IGX vertical sections are to be placed in storage,
maximum protection can be obtained by keeping them packed as
shipped. Before placing them in storage, checks should be made to
make sure that the vertical sections are free from shipping damage
and are in satisfactory operating condition.
Indoor storage should be in a building with sufficient heat and air
circulation to prevent condensation. If the building is not climate
controlled, the same general rule as for outdoor storage, as noted
below, should be applied. The storage area where Power Xpert IGX
vertical sections are stored must be clean, dry and well-ventilated,
with a constant interior temperature of no less than 23o F . (-5o
C.) for extended periods of time. Check the area periodically for
condensation.
Store the shipping groups upright, and do not stack them.
Outdoor storage of the switchgear vertical structure or shipping
group is NOT recommended. If unavoidable, the outdoor location
must be well drained and sheltered from sun, rain, snow, corrosive
fumes, dirt, falling objects and excessive moisture. Shipping groups
should be arranged to permit free circulation of air on all sides
and temporary heaters should be used to minimize condensation.
Moisture can cause corrosion of metal parts and deterioration of

medium-voltage insulation. A heat level of approximately 400 watts
for each 100 cubic feet of volume is recommended with the heaters
distributed uniformly throughout the structure near the floor.
