Instructions for the installation and
commissioning of Power Xpert IGX
medium-voltage switchgear
Typical voltage tests that can be performed on the power cables are:
DC voltage withstand test
Very Low Frequency (VLF) withstand test
To avoid damage to the Power Xpert IGX switchgear and, cable test
voltages should not exceed the following values:
DC PFWV Test - 80 kV
VLF (very low frequency) PFWV Test - 56 kV

5.2.3. Current test

Contact Eaton engineering services for more information.

5.2.4. Testing Completion

After performing the voltage withstand test and before energizing
the switchgear for normal service, remove the three wires from the
front of the voltage detecting device (VDS).

5.3. Commissioning checklist

This section covers recommended Power Xpert IGX switchgear
commissioning practices. It is ultimately the responsibility of the
commissioning contractor to determine the level of activities
required to satisfy the project requirements on an application by
application basis.
Initial conditions
Confirm all supply voltages are available. Switch off and lock
out all supply voltages.
Examine the equipment installation:
All vertical structures are installed and anchored to the floor
All vertical structures are the correct distance from the walls
All vertical structures are leveled to specification
All insulating surfaces are clean and dry
All compartments are free of loose parts, tools, litter and
miscellaneous construction items
All barriers and covers are in place and secured
All warning signs and labels are in place
Touch up any surface damage to doors, vertical structures, etc.
Inspections
Verify gas pressure is within the green zone on the pressure
gauge
Verify all interconnects
Verify CTs connections to shorting blocks (if furnished)
Verify VTs connections to terminal blocks (if furnished)
Control power OFF mechanical testing (for each Power Xpert
IGX vertical section)
Confirm control power is switched off and locked out;
Start with the CB Open
Manually charge the CB spring
Attempt to Close the CB
Confirm that the 3PS Mech keyed selector will not operate.
Using the 3PS Manual Operation T-Handle, move the 3PS to
Ground, Connect, and Disconnect positions and verify status
indication symbol flag positions are correct.
Control power ON mechanical testing (for each Power Xpert IGX
vertical section)
Put the switchgear into the following state:
the CB is open; the 3PS Mech is in disconnect;
the 3PS Mech keyed switch selector is in the neutral
position;
no medium voltage is present on the cable side.
Apply control power; the CB charging motor will charge the
spring if not already charged; the CB charging motor will stop
once charging is complete. The Mechanism Status window
(viewable through the vertical section door cutout) will show
"Charged. "
Close and Open the CB using the mechanical buttons on
the front panel. Verify the CB status indicating lights, the
mechanical flags and dynamic mimic bus match appropriately.
Confirm that the 3PS Mech keyed selector will operate with
the CB open.
Use the 3PS Mech Manual Operation T-Handle to move the
3PS Mech to Ground, Connect and Disconnect positions
as indicated by the 3PS Mech dynamic mimic bus on the
operator front panel and indicating lights.
Use the 3PS Mech Manual Operation T-Handle to move the
VT 3PS Mech to Ground, Connect and Disconnect positions
as indicated by the VT 3PS Mech dynamic mimic bus on the
operator front panel.
Control power ON electrical testing - local at each vertical
section
With the CB open, insert the 3PS Mech Manual Operation
T-Handle in to the Disconnect Access Port. Confirm that
closing the CB using the mechanical or electrical pushbuttons
is not permitted. Confirm that 3PS Mech pushbutton
operations are not permitted.
Connect the 3PS Mech using the pushbutton, confirm that CB
electrical operations using pushbuttons are permitted (when
3PS Mech is in Connect position). Confirm that panel door
3PS Mech Connect indicating light is illuminated.
Open the CB if not already open. Disconnect the 3PS Mech
using panel door pushbutton. Confirm that the 3PS Mech
Disconnect indicating light is illuminated. Confirm that CB
electrical operations (using panel door pushbuttons) are
permitted (when the 3PS Mech is in the Disconnect position)
Open the CB if not already open. Ground the 3PS Mech
using the pushbutton. Confirm that the 3PS Mech Grounded
indicating light is illuminated. Confirm that CB electrical
operations (using pushbuttons) are permitted (when the 3PS
Mech is in Ground position and no voltage is present on the
cable side).
Close the CB using pushbutton. Attempt to connect the 3PS
Mech using pushbutton. Confirm that operating the 3PS Mech
is not permitted with the CB closed.
Verify camera for 3PS and VT 3PS are operating.
