Installing the Printer

11801C User Manual
A variety of printers and plotters are supported for producing a paper copy
of the display. This section will cover how to configure your system for most
printers. Also, refer to your printer manual for the proper printer settings.
Connect the printer to the 11801C. Depending on the printer, you will want
to use the PRINTER connector, the GPIB connector, or the RS 232 C
connector. See Figure 3 44.

H
PRINTER is the appropriate connector for CentronicsR compatible
printers. This is the standard interface for the 11801C and no special
configuration of the 11801C is required.
H
GPIB is the General Purpose Interface Bus parallel interface connector.
Use a standard cable fifteen meters or less in length. If you are not using
a controller to initiate the hardcopy, set the GPIB Mode parameter of the
11801C to Talk Only and set the printer to Listen Only or Listen Always
mode (address 31). Setting GPIB parameters is explained on page 3 80.
H
RS 232 C is a serial interface connector. Use a standard, straight wired
cable with male connectors on both ends. Hard flagging is used, so all
lines must be connected. Do not use a null modem cable. The 11801C
acts as a DCE device. Connecting the 11801C to a computer also
requires a straight wired cable, but soft flagging may be used.
The RS 232 C parameters baud rate, parity, and number of stop bits, of
the 11801C should be set to match those of the printer or computer.
When you connect a printer to the RS 232 C connector, you may also
need to set the RS 232 C flagging to Hard. Setting RS 232 C parame
ters is explained on page 3 164.
