    1. Introduction Product description The ArjoHuntleigh Essence™ 2000/3000 are beds with manually operated functions, intended as general ward beds for supporting adult patients mainly in an acute care environment in hospital. Basic treatment and positioning can take place while the patient is in the bed.

    2. Applications Essence 2000/3000 models are suitable for use in the Intended use following areas: • Acute care provided in a hospital or other medical facility where medical supervision and monitoring is required, e.g. general medical and surgical wards. • Long term care in a medical area where medical supervision is required and monitoring is provided if necessary, e.g.

    3. Operation Cautions ● To reduce the risk of injury due to falls, lower the bed to minimum height when the patient is unattended (For Essence 3000 only). ● When the bed is operated, make sure that obstacles such as bedside furniture do not restrict its movement.
  • Page 11 Brakes and castors Essence 2000/3000 includes two kinds of brake systems: separate brake system and central brake system. ● Separate brake system The brake pedals at each separate castor have two positions as shown: Brake Brakes are applied on all four castors. (Press end 1) Free All four castors are free to rotate and swivel.
  • Page 12 Side rail operation The bed can be fitted with “Folding Vertical side rail” and “Folding Horizontal side rail”.  Folding Vertical side rails are not available in all countries. WARNING The clinically qualified person responsible should consider the age, size and condition of the patient before allowing the use of side rails.
  • Page 13 ● Folding Horizontal side rail To lower the side rail: Hold the top rail (1) just behind the hinge. Pull (direction 4) the operating knob (2) and lower the side rail towards the foot end of the bed (3). To raise the side rail: Pull the top rail up until it locks in the raised position with an audible “click”.

The hi-low adjustment crank used in Essence 3000 is in the middle of the foot end.     4. Accessories – Fitting and Operation Various accessories can be added to Essence 2000/3000 beds to assist both patient and carer. This chapter describes how to fit and use these accessories correctly. Accessories currently available are shown in the table below.
  • Page 18 Mattress Back rest Leg rest WARNING Always use a mattress of the correct size and type. Incompatible mattresses can create hazards. Entrapment hazards may exist when using a very soft mattress, even if it is the correct size. The maximum recommended mattress thickness for use with side rail is 12cm.

  • Page 20 Sundry Basket Sundry basket/frame is optional and is located below head/foot board. During installation, just put the basket’s hook onto the bed under-frame tubes. IV Pole Assemble the IV pole at a corresponding place (Every corner of the bed has the IV Pole socket).
  • Page 21 Dining Board The dining board can be fitted to the side rail by two slots. The distance between two slots is 948mm. When the dining board is not in use, it can be hooked to the foot board. Installation When using the dining board, attach it to the side rails, making sure the two slots on the dining board fit to each side rail and lock.

    5. Cleaning WARNING The bed should be cleaned and disinfected before it is used by a new patient.  These instructions also apply to accessories but not to lifting straps and handles, mattresses or safety side pads. Cleaning Wearing suitable protective clothing, clean all surfaces with a disposable cloth soaked in a neutral detergent and warm water.

    6. Care and Preventive Maintenance Care The below preventive maintenance shall be carried out once every 12 months. The procedures below must be carried out by suitably trained ArjoHuntleigh personnel. Make sure disposal of products and components conforms to local regulations.
