Troubleshooting Running Belt Slip

This procedure is used to correct a slipping running belt, and prevent slipping without the need to
replace the rollers or belt.
1. Completely de-tension the take-up roller.
2. Position the belt in the center of the deck and rollers.
3. Place two running belt gauges on each side of the running belt, being sure the gauges are not
positioned across a belt seam. Set the gauges to the 3% mark as shown in the illustration
below.
4. Tension the running belt by alternately tightening the running belt tension adjustment bolts in
the following sequence:
a. First tighten the left and right tension bolts until the belt is snug and reads 3.0%.
b. Then tighten the left adjustment bolt to 3.25%.
c. Then tighten the right adjustment bolt to 3.5%.
d. Then tension the left adjustment bolt to 3.8%
e. Then tighten the right hand side to 3.8%.
NOTE
If the take-roller shaft is blocked by the mounting bracket before the tension gauge reaches
the 3.8% reading, the belt is defective and will need to be replaced. Order a replacement
belt, and refer to the Replacing the Running Belt and Deck section.
5. Remove both belt gauges from the running belt.
6. Verify the running belt tracking. Start the treadmill and operate at 2 mph. Observe the running
belt. If the belt drifts from center, only use the right take-up roller adjustment bolt to center the
belt as follows:
a. If the belt drifts to the right, slowly turn the right take-up roller bolt clockwise until the
drifting stops.
b. If the belt drifts to the left, slowly turn the right take-up roller bolt counter clockwise until the
drifting stops.
7. Increase the treadmill speed to 4 mph, if the belt drifts away from center, use the same belt
adjustment procedure to center the tracking.
8. Increase the treadmill speed to 8 mph, if the belt drifts away from center, use the same belt
