Hardware Installation

Requirements
You must have the following items before installing the IBM ATA 133 RAID controller:
a IBM IDE controller
host computer with an available PCI expansion slot
IBM IDE installation diskettes
two 80-conductor Ultra ATA-100/133 cables
at least two IDE drives for RAID configuration

Installation Steps

Perform the following steps to install the IBM ATA 133 RAID controller. Each step is
described in detail in the following pages.

Unpack the RAID controller and inspect for damage.
Make sure all items are in the package. If any parts are damaged or missing,
contact IBM Support as outlined in Appendix A.
Turn the computer off, unplug the cord, and remove the cover.
Check the jumper settings on the RAID controller.
See page 16 for the jumper settings.
Install the RAID controller.
Connect the ATA 100/133 cables to IDE drives.
Replace the computer cover, plug the computer in, and turn the power on.
Be sure the IDE drives are powered up before or at the same time as the host
computer.
Configure system BIOS.
Install software drivers for the desired operating systems.
Run MegaRAID Configuration Console.
This step is optional. See the MegaRAID Configuration Console User's
Guide for more information.
