Protection classes according to IP code

The levels of protection are defined and divided into different classes in the IEC 60529 standard (DIN EN
60529). The designation follows the scheme below.

foreign objects = 2.5 mm diameter

Protection against access to hazardous parts with a wire. Protection against ingress of solid
foreign objects = 1 mm diameter

Protection against access to hazardous parts with a wire. Protection against ingress of dust.
Ingress of dust is not prevented completely, although the quantity of dust able to penetrate is
limited to such an extent that the proper function of the device and safety are not impaired
