Replacing drives

CAUTION: When hot-swapping any device, you must complete the replacement within five minutes to maintain
proper system airflow and cooling. If a replacement will take longer than five minutes, install a drive carrier
containing a drive blank to prevent thermal damage to the system.
Prerequisites
Make note of the location of each drive. This is especially important if the drives contain data and the system has a
zoned configuration.
Verify that no data transactions are occurring on the drive or drive carrier being replaced.
Verify that the bezel has been removed.
Procedure
1.
Press the release catch on the drive to open the handle.
2.
Lift the handle into the fully open position.
3.
Gently grasp the drive by the middle of the handle and slide it out about an inch from the drive bay.
4.
Grasp the drive just behind the handle and pull it out of the drive bay.
5.
Place the drive being replaced on an antistatic surface.
6.
Verify that the drive handle of the replacement drive is in the fully open position.
7.
Grasp the frame just behind the drive handle and gently push the drive into the drive bay until the drive handle
engages.
8.
Press the release handle downward until the release latch connects with the release catch and the drive sets into
place.
9.
Verify that the drive is installed properly in the drive bay so that it is flush with the face of the J2000.
10. Repeat the preceding steps for all remaining drives.

Replacing an I/O module

CAUTION: Hot-swapping an I/O module must be completed within five minutes to prevent the drives from
overheating. If a replacement will take longer than five minutes, a canister blank must be installed in the empty I/O
slot to ensure proper air circulation.
Extending the J2000 from the rack to replace an I/O module is not necessary.
Prerequisites
Make sure that all data transactions are completed on the I/O module you want to replace.
Procedure
1.
Release the Cable Management Arm.
2.
Remove the cables from their corresponding connectors on the I/O module operator panel.
