During the initialization procedure, you will need to log in to the Storwize
management GUI.
The default user name and password for the management GUI are listed in Table 7.

Note: The 0 character in the password is a zero, not the letter O.
To initialize a new system with a Microsoft Windows computer, use the
initialization tool that was shipped with your order.
Before you begin
v Begin this procedure after you have installed all the enclosures, drives and other
options you have purchased.
v You need a personal computer to complete the initialization procedure. The
personal computer must have:
– A USB port
– A supported browser (see "Web browser requirements to access the
management GUI" on page 45)
For best results, the personal computer and the Storwize system must be
connected to the same network.
About this task
This procedure is valid for Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) or XP (32-bit).
v Use this procedure only when initializing a new control enclosure (with,
optionally, one to four expansion enclosures).
v Do not use this procedure when adding an expansion enclosure to an existing
system.
Procedure
To initialize the system, complete the following steps.
1. Gather the information you will use to configure the system.
v You must have the IP network address you will use to manage the system.
– IP address
– Subnet mask
– Gateway
v Other information is optional, but useful for enabling additional capabilities.
