Establishing a First-Time Serial Connection

Perform the following steps to log on to the device through a serial connection:
1. Connect the device with the workstation.
For G620 (Switch Type 162), connect the serial cable to the serial port on the device and the RS-232 serial port on
the workstation.
For G620v2 (switch type 183), there are two types of cables or adapters. You can connect the device with the
workstation by using either of the following options:
When you receive a switch with the 60-1003495-* cable kit, the cable kit contains a male mini-USB connector
at one end and a male RJ-45 connector at the other end. The kit also contains a DB9 adapter. Connect the
mini-USB of the console cable to the device and connect the RJ-45 of the cable to the RS-232 serial port
on the workstation. Next, connect the DB-9 end of the RJ-45 cable to the RS-232 serial port of the device or
workstation (see the following figure).

When you receive a switch with the 50-10001-49-* mini-USB console adapter along with 60-0410102-* serial
cable kit to connect to the remote serial port, connect the mini-USB end of the adapter cable (PN 50-10001-49-
*) to the system serial port (mini-USB) and connect the RJ-45 cable (Kit PN 60-0410102-*) to the adapter cable
RJ-45 jack. Next, connect the DB end of the RJ-45 cable to the RS-232 serial port of the device or workstation
(see the following figure).
