    1.0 Introduction This Field Service Installation Guide describes the EFI Pro 16h Wide Format Printer installation procedure. It contains site preparation requirements, unpacking procedures, and setup requirements. 1.1 About This Guide This guide assists trained Field Service Engineers (FSEs) in installing the Pro 16h Wide Format Printer.

    1.4 Guide Conventions This guide uses these conventions: Convention Meaning Step Numbered style begins a procedure. An arrow and number indicating a printer component or location, with accompanying list of components.     3.0 Pro 16h Printer Installation Procedures This chapter contains the Pro 16h Wide Format Printer Installation procedures. If replacement parts are required during installation, please specify that the part order is for an installation. If the replacement part number is not known, please inform Product Support that the part being ordered is for an installation.
  • Page 13: Unpacking Printer

    3.4 Unpacking Printer Follow these instructions to unpack printer. Remove the printer pallet/crate from the truck. The crate/pallet can be dragged approximately 6” off the floor with a fork lift truck by inserting forks under pallet end and dragging the crate/pallet off the truck. Important! Use safety chains secured to the drag eyelet to ensure the printer does not slip off forks when dragging.
  • Page 14 Inspect plastic wrapping on printer for any external damage. If any external damage exists, notify the Facilities Manager and ship- ping company, and take photos of any damage before removing plastic wrapping. Remove the plastic covering from the printer.     3.5 Positioning Printer Follow these instructions to position printer correctly. Important! Reference the Printer Specifications, ITS-00143, Pro 16h Printer Specifications for printer space requirements and placement information. 3.5.1 Lifting the Printer from Pallet Lift the printer from the pallet as described in this paragraph.

    3.5.2 Install Printer Feet Install the printer feet as follows: The Printer Feet are threaded and include an adjustment nut and a lock nut. as shown. While the printer is on the fork lift or pallet jack, install the feet by screwing the threaded shaft into the installation location next to the printer wheels.
  • Page 17 Thread the shafts into the installation location only far enough to ensure that the wheels will not touch the floor when the printer is lowered. Check the installation before lowering the printer by mea- suring the distance from the bottom of the printer to the bottom of the rubber pads on the bottom of the feet to ensure it is more than the wheel hight.

    3.6 Leveling the Printer Using Machinist’s Levels or equivalent, follow these instructions to level the printer. 3.6.1 Level Locations Place three levels at the locations shown prior to making adjustments to the leveling feet. Place two levels on the left and right sides of the media belt to check front-to-back level and to check for printer “twist”. Place another level on the center of the media belt for side-to-side leveling.

    3.6.2 Adjusting the Leveling Feet Level the printer front-to-back and side-to-side as described in this paragraph. It is important to make all adjustments with the levels in place. Make adjustments for leveling front-to-back and side-to-side at the same time. Use an adjustable wrench, rotate the foot so that it moves up or down.

    3.7 Operator Station Installation The Operator Station is comprised of the monitor, keyboard tray, keyboard and mouse. Install and connect Operator Station components as described in the following paragraphs and illustrations. A brief overview of operator station installation is provided below: Route the cables for the monitor and keyboard tray connections.

    3.7.1 Monitor Cable Routing Route the monitor cables prior to installing the monitor. Install the Monitor in accordance with the instructions provided in this section. Route the Monitor Cables through the elongated openings in the Monitor Mounting Cover.. Ensure that the cables are secured using the appropriate clamps and/or tie wraps.

    3.7.2 Monitor and Keyboard Tray Installation Install the monitor to the mounting bracket as described below. Holding the monitor near the mounting bracket, connect the monitor cables to the back of the monitor. Once the cables are secured, attach the monitor to the mounting bracket - Hang monitor on Tabs. (Figure 3-17) Endure the Monitor is properly secured.

    3.8 Computer Installation and Connections Setup and Install the Computer as described in this Section. 3.8.1 Computer Connections Make Computer Connections as follows: Main Power Mouse and Keyboard.     3.9 Installation of Rolled Media Handling System (Take-Up and Feed Roll Assemblies) The following paragraphs provide instructions for the installation of the Rolled Media Handling System. This system is comprised of the Take-Up and Feed Roll Assemblies. These assemblies are shipped with the printer and must be installed and aligned separately.

    3.9.2 Feed Roll Assembly Installation The Feed Roll Assembly is installed on the rear of the printer (opposite the operator station). A brief overview of this installation is provided below.     3.10 Roll-to-Roll Alignment Procedure Install rear roller onto the back of the EFI Pro 16h. Aligning the media take-up and supply rolls requires the following: • Standard tools • 3 new style alignment tools • Bubble level • New rear/third roller w/ screws 4x M3x30 , 4x M4x16 Figure 3-26: Roll-to-Roll Alignment Tools Install the new rear roller while installing screws.

    3.10.1 Alignment Process Go to the rear of the printer and insert the alignment tool under the fence on the right side of the belt. Adjust tool to fit. Move tool down the belt to the left side. Alignment is only accomplished by screw slop. Figure 3-29: Alignment Tool in Place Loosen the left end of the new roller and make fit as right hand side.

    3.10.2 Leveling the Take-Up Roll Assembly Level the Side Plates as follows: Level the Motor Side Plate and the Flat Side Plate during installation. There is enough play in the mounting holes to manipulate the plates so that they are level. Secure after leveling. After the side plates are level, adjust the level by loosening the bracket on the left side plate and moving it up or down.
  • Page 37 Using the REAR/SUPPLY side alignment tool, put the large end on the new roller at the right end. The other end goes to the media shaft. Check fit and then move to the left end and adjust the 4 screws to make a good fit compared to the right side.     3.10.3 Install Anti-Coning Load the roll media on the rear/supply roller aligned perfectly in the middle of the media roller and print area. Using a tape mea- sure, verify this as seen in Figure 3-35. Figure 3-35: Verify Supply Roll Alignment Load media over the media belt and down the front/take-up roller assembly as straight as you can.

    3.11 Carriage Preparation Prepare the carriage for printer operations as follows: 3.11.1 Removal of Carriage Shipping Brackets Remove the Carriage shipping brackets as follows: 1.Remove the hardware securing the bracket to the carriage and beam on the left and right side of the carriage.     3.12 Media Belt Alignment and Tensioning After installation, the Media Belt must be aligned and tensioned. Fist check alignment as described. Then check and tension using the special fixture provided. Finally, adjust tension as described in this Section. 3.12.1 Measurement and Alignment Checks Check the Media Belt Measurement and Alignment as follows: 1.At about 2 inches from the left edge of the belt, push a tape measure under the media belt on the left side and wrap it around the belt as shown.

    3.12.2 Tension Fixture Check the Belt Tension using the special tension fixture provided. 1.Zero the Indicator. Set the fixture onto the belt about 2 inches from the right edge of the belt. Ensure the fixture makes FULL, FLAT contact with the belt. It must be flat across the top of the belt and must be pressed against the front edge of the belt.

    3.12.3 Media Belt Tension Adjustments Adjust the tension and alignment of the Media Belt as follows: 1.Go to the rear of the printer and locate the Media Belt Adjustment Screws. There are 2 adjustments, one on either side of the belt. (See 3.12.3) Using a 10mm Allen wrench, adjust the belt by turning the adjustment screw on the side that needs to be adjusted as follows: A.If the circumference measurement is shorter on one side, adjust the dimension by using the appropriate adjustment screw.

    3.13 Install Media Vacuum Foot Pedal Place the Media Vacuum Foot Pedal in the desired location. The Foot Pedal is already attached to the printer and stored in the PC compartment.     3.19 Rigid Media Fence Alignment The rigid media fence may require adjustment during installation procedures. Check for misalignment and adjust the fence in accordance with the following: 3.19.1 Rigid Media Fence Alignment Check Check for proper fence alignment as follows: Load a piece of rigid media onto the printer and align with fence and 90 degree block.

    3.19.2 Rigid Media Fence Alignment Adjustments Adjust the Fence as described in the following steps. The Fence must be parallel to the Carriage Beam. Adjust the fence so it is parallel to the beam as described in the following steps. Place some rolled media onto the vacuum belt.

    3.20.2 GUI Settings On the main GUI, we can enter a 'Right margin". This software expects this to be a distance from the "edge of the belt" and NOT a distance from the edge of the media. People may expect the "right margin" to be the distance from the edge of the media, but it is not. For rigid media, can line up with the alignment piece on the fence and adjust the margin until it is printing at the edge of the media.

    4.4 Unpacking Printer ____ Remove shipping material and inspect printer for visible damage. ® ____ Verify ShockWatch tip/impact indicators have not been tripped. If there are any indicators that are tripped, notify the Facility Manager, the shipping company, and your manager or director, and take pictures of the indicator and note its exact location before continuing.
