Replacing the NVRAM PCI Card
Replacing the NVRAM PCI card may be performed by a single administrator; no
tools are necessary. This document contains the necessary procedures to replace an
existing card on a Snap Server. However, if you are restoring cache from an existing
card to a replacement chassis, you must call Overland Storage technical support
before removing an existing NVRAM card for additional procedures not described
in this document. When contacting support, be sure to reference your case number
to obtain the appropriate telephone or field engineer.
There are static-sensitive electronics inside the unit. Before you handle any
Caution
parts, make sure you are working at a static-controlled workstation and that you are
properly grounded.
Taking the Server Offline for Hardware Modifications
Power down the server before you make any repairs. Improper shutdown may lead to
loss of data or physical harm.
To start the shutdown process, press the power
1
button on the front of the server.
The green power LED remains lit until the shutdown
process is complete. DO NOT disconnect the AC
power cord while the LED remains lit.
After the power LED is off, disconnect the AC power
2
cord(s) and all other cables from the back of the
server.
The server is heavy. With the help of an assistant, remove the server from the
3
rack to a clean surface with ample room to the front and rear.
