Description
reusable electrosurgical devices are sold as non-sterile unless otherwise noted. Each reusable device is designed
to withstand a minimum of 20 sterilization cycles when properly cared for and sterilized according to the
instructions below. These devices are designed to function as accessories to active electrodes.
Explanation of Symbols
Refer to the BD Symbols Glossary for symbol definitions at www.bd.com/symbols-glossary.
Indications
CareFusion electrosurgical cords and adapters are designed to bring high frequency electrical power from the
electrosurgical generator to the active electrode and are intended for use with a maximum voltage of 3500 Volts.
Handling
1. Inspect device before each use. Discard or send for repair if damaged.
2. Device use and application to be determined by physician.
3. Clean and decontaminate the device according to the instructions below:
a. Begin decontamination immediately after a surgical procedure. Wipe off all debris with a moist
sponge or gauze pad.
b. Clean adapters with mild detergent (Tergazyme or a similar type solution) that is safe for plastics, if
necessary, with the exception of cords.
c. Cords should not be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner. Adapters can be processed by following
the recommendations of the ultrasonic manufacturer regarding cycle times, detergents, proper
placement of the instruments, etc.

Caution
• Inspect every device before each use. Damaged electrosurgical devices may cause electrical burns to
the patient or physician.
• Active electrosurgical devices must be placed away from the patient when not in use. A holster is
recommended.
• Consult RF generator Owner's Manual. Use only in the active RF generator output connections.
• Do not perform electrosurgery in the presence of flammable anesthetics or other flammable gases,
fluids or objects, or in the presence of oxidizing agents, as fire could result.
• Avoid unnecessary or prolonged activation. Activate only when touching or immediately next to the
intended point of contact.
• Keep the voltage/power settings at the lowest possible level to achieve the desired effect.
• Establish a protocol for device examination and maintenance.
Warning
Improper use of any element in electrosurgical systems may cause serious burn. The use of the device with
safely functioning and compatible handles, cords, electrosurgical generators and accessories is the user's
responsibility. Read and understand all precautions and instructions before using any electrosurgical device.
