Chapter 4. Connecting a c-series switch to a network device

This chapter provides information about performing the following tasks:
v Securing access to the switch's CLI by assigning passwords
v Configuring IP addresses for the management, Ethernet, virtual, and loopback
v Understanding how the management port functions
v Connecting a switch to another networking device
v Testing network connectivity
This chapter also includes information about troubleshooting a network connection
in case a problem arises.

Assigning permanent passwords

By default, the switch's CLI is not protected by passwords. To secure CLI access,
assigning a password is strongly recommended. (For additional information on
security, see the NetIron Series Configuration Guide.)
