10 Gbps XFP ports: The B50C models come with two fixed 10 Gbps XFP ports.
The B24C models have a module slot to accommodate an optional, field
upgradeable 2-port 10 GbE XFP module. For installation procedures, please see
"Installing or replacing a 2-port 10-gigabit Ethernet module" on page 42.
The 10-gigabit Ethernet ports use 10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable (XFP)
MSA-compliant transceivers.

Supported optics

100/1000 Mbps SFP ports
The 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet SFP ports found on all c-series devices except the
IBM Ethernet Switch B50C (Copper) model can connect to other network devices at
a speed of 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps. Only Brocade-branded SFP transceivers can be
used in these physical ports.
Brocade-branded transceivers are MSA-compliant and provide a Physical Medium
Dependent (PMD) interface to the LAN Physical (PHY) layer. The following 100
Mbps and 1000 Mbps transceivers are available and support Optical Monitoring
(OM) capabilities unless otherwise noted:
v 1000BASE-T SFP transceiver, 1 Gbps up to 100 m over CAT5 or higher cabling,
v 1000BASE-SX 850 nm SFP transceiver, 1 Gbps up to 550 m over multi-mode
v 1000BASE-LX 1310 nm SFP transceiver, 1 Gbps up to 10 km over single-mode
v 1000BASE-LHA 1550 nm SFP transceiver, 1 Gbps up to 70 km over single-mode
v 100BASE-FX 1310 nm SFP transceiver, 100 Mbps up to 2 km over multi-mode
10–gigabit Ethernet ports: The 10 Gbps Ethernet XFP ports found on the IBM
Ethernet Switch B50C models can connect to other network devices at a speed of
10 Gbps. Only Brocade-branded XFP transceivers can be used in these physical
ports.
Brocade-branded transceivers are MSA-compliant and provide a Physical Medium
Dependent (PMD) interface to the LAN Physical (PHY) layer. The following 10
Gbps transceivers are available and support Optical Monitoring (OM) capabilities
unless otherwise noted:
v 10GBASE-SR, 850 nm serial pluggable XFP transceiver, 10 Gbps up to 300 m
v 10GBASE-LR, 1310 nm serial pluggable XFP transceiver, 10 Gbps up to 10 km
v 10GBASE-ER, 1550 nm serial pluggable XFP transceiver, 10 Gbps up to 40 km
v 10GBASE-CX4, XFP transceiver, 10 Gbps up to 15 km, CX connector (Copper)

Port regions

Ports on the switches are grouped into regions. For a few features, such as port
monitoring and unknown unicast configurations, you will need to know the region
to which a port belongs. However, for most features, a port's region does not affect
