Applications for Generic Mode

This section provides information about the function of inputs and outputs and examples of wiring
for typical generic applications of the MP501. In generic mode, the MP501 can be used to control
a variety of applications, including:
Wiring MP501 depends upon the application. In generic mode, the input used for control can be
configured as temperature, flow, pressure, percent, or parts per million (ppm).

Inputs for Generic Applications

The MP501 includes four (4) inputs.

BI1: Enable/Disable or Generic Binary Input

The binary input equates a signal of 0 Vac with open contacts and 24 Vac with closed contacts. The
binary input can function as:
AI1: 4–20 mA Analog Input
In generic mode, this input is configurable as temperature, flow, pressure, percent, or ppm. In any
of these configurations, the input accepts a 4–20 mA signal. The range of the sensor being used
(for example, 4–20 mA is 0–100%) is configured with the device plug-in of a software service tool
(such as the Rover service tool).
Note: Trane 10 kW thermistor temperature sensors are not compatible with this input.

SET: Local Setpoint

This input is not used if the controller is operating in generic mode. Neither the MP501 nor a BAS
system can use this input if the MP501 is configured as generic.
CNT-SVX08F-EN
Humidifier
Space pressure
Outside air tempering coil
Variable-speed pump
Simple cooling tower
The MP501 ships from the factory configured in SCC mode. Use a service tool (such
as the Rover service tool) to change the configuration to match your particular
generic application.
Inputs (generic mode)
Enable/disable input; If configured as enable/disable, the binary input allows the control loop
to calculate. If the input is open, the control loop calculates. If the input is closed, the control
loop is disabled.
Generic binary input; If configured as generic, the binary input can be monitored only by a BAS,
and has no direct effect on MP501 operation.
