CAUTION: The cooling air for all components in the rack must flow in the same
direction to allow for proper temperature control. Do not block the front or rear air
vents. The switch uses ambient air for cooling.

Power Requirements

The switch element is powered up as soon as the power cable is connected to the switch
and to a power source. The switch element automatically performs a Power-On Self-Test
(POST), a diagnostic test that takes 2.5 to 5 minutes. Power supply requirements are listed
in Appendix C.
Each switch element has its own universal power supply capable of functioning worldwide
without voltage jumpers or switches. The power supply is auto-ranging in terms of
accommodating input voltages and line frequencies, and meets IEC 61000-4-5 surge
voltage requirements. Each AC power cord is inserted into the connector at the bottom of
each switch element (see Installing the SAN Integrated Switch, page 2-8).
In order to protect the SAN Integrated Switch from power source failures, it is desirable to
distribute the switch elements across two different power sources, if there are two AC
power sources available. The division should place switch elements one, two and three on
a different source than four, five and six, as shown in Figure 2–1.
