SAN Switch Integrated/32 and Integrated/64 Installation and Hardware Guide
Make sure the airflow to the SAN Integrated Switch is at least 300 cubic feet per
minute (cfpm).
Verify there is space in the rack. The SAN Integrated Switch is 14U (25 inches) high.
Heaviest components should always be installed in the bottom of the rack.
Before the SAN Integrated Switch is installed, verify that the rack is stable. (See Rack
Stability, page xiv.)
Verify that the SAN Integrated Switch does not unbalance the rack or exceed the rack's
mechanical limits, when all six switch elements are in the chassis, and one of the six is
partially extended out of the chassis.
Verify that the supply circuit, the line fuse, and the wire size are adequate according to
the electrical rating on the switch element's nameplate.
Verify that all pieces of equipment installed in the rack have reliable grounds; do not
rely on connection to a branch circuit, such as a power strip.
Route and support the power cords to ensure that the switch elements move freely on
the slide brackets without crimping or chafing the power cords, or interfering with
other equipment and cables installed in the rack.

Selecting an Operating Location

The SAN Integrated Switch should be located in a secure or limited-access area to ensure
that cable connections are not compromised. The switch must meet the cooling air
requirements and power requirements described below.

Cooling Requirements

Each of the six switch elements has built-in axial fans to cool the units. The direction of air
flow is from the air inlet side (rear of the switch where fans are visible) to the service side
(the front where the ports and ISL cables are) of the units. The entire SAN Integrated
Switch is specially configured to provide proper cooling for a maximum power rating of
70 watts (W) per switch element. Total system power is 420W.
CAUTION: It is strongly recommended that the rack be mechanically secured to
prevent tipping over in an earthquake.
