NOTE: Before starting the Microfluidizer processor, the Emergency Stop knob has to be pulled
out by rotating it clockwise and the blue Reset button on the control panel has to be
depressed.
Filling the Product Inlet Reservoir
1. Turn on the Master Power On/Off switch at the rear of the processor.
2. Press the blue Reset button located on the control panel.
3. Rotate the Mode switch to the Jog position.
4. Press and hold the Extend button for about 15 seconds to ensure that the piston is
fully extended.
5. With the system already primed, fill the product inlet reservoir/syringe, and attach to
the inlet tube via the luer fitting.
6. Push in the piston of the outlet syringe and attach the syringe to the outlet/exit tube.
7. Depress the inlet reservoir piston while you press the Piston Retract button (while in
Jog mode) to slowly suction fluid from the inlet reservoir syringe. The amount of fluid
drawn in by the piston can be read from the graduated syringe, with the maximum
being 6 ml.
8. Rotate the Mode switch to the Run position, and wait approximately 22 seconds for the
Pump On light to turn off and (simultaneously) the Ready light to turn on. During this
operation, the pump will turn on and then turn off automatically when it is ready to
extend the piston.
9. Verify that the outlet reservoir/syringe is connected.
WARNING: BE SURE THE PISTON OF THE OUTLET SYRINGE IS WELL INSIDE THE BORE OF THE
SYRINGE ELSE IT MAY BE SHOT OUT AND INJURY MAY OCCUR. DO NOT ALLOW THE OUTLET
SYRINGE TO OVERFILL!
10. When the pump turns off, press and hold the Extend button for about 2 seconds. This
will cause the piston to extend with high force to generate the high pressure stroke.
The processed volume will be collected in the outlet reservoir/syringe. In some cases
large bubbles may be seen in the exiting product, this may just be dissolved gases
escaping. If the bubbles seen appear to be foam like, the unit may need to be further
primed.
11. Rotate the Mode switch to the Jog position, and wait about 10 seconds for the unit to
unload. (This process will generate an audible sound which will cease upon
completion.)
12. Repeat the above steps for multiple strokes using the Process Pressure Adjustment
knob to increase (CW) or decrease (CCW) the operating pressure.
