Chapter 2: Overview
Hydraulic Power System
The hydraulic power system provides power to the Microfluidizer equipment via pressurized
hydraulic fluid. Standard hydraulic components make up the hydraulic power system. See the
drawing on the CD.
High Pressure Intensifier
The high pressure intensifier multiplies the pressure supplied from the hydraulic power system via
the hydraulic fluid to the necessary operating level. The intensifier is located in the front of the
Microfluidizer equipment, and is accessible for servicing, including removal for autoclaving.
Designed to operate with simple linear motion, the intensifier requires minimal maintenance. See
the drawing "Liquid End Pump Assembly."
Interaction Chamber
See the
Principle of Operation
section. The interaction chamber can only be mounted in one way.
It is easily accessible for cleaning or replacing.
Constructed of stainless steel with ceramic product contact surfaces, the interaction chamber is
dimensionally fixed. Microfluidics supplies the interaction chamber in the correct size according to
each customer's product requirements and specifications.
Controls and Connections
This section describes the various controls, valves, gauges, connections, and components on the
LV1. Figure 2.1 shows a front view of the LV1. Figure 2.2 shows a rear view on the LV1.
Descriptions of components are supplied in the following subsections.
