Chapter 4. Configuration
4.1 Configuration Overview
The RX3i CEP receives its configuration from a PROFINET IO-Controller, which is configured by a PROFINET I/O
configuration tool. The GSDML files are provided with Proficy Machine Edition. For other PROFINET I/O
configuration tools, the RX3i CEP GSDML must be imported. The RX3i CEP GSDML can be obtained by
contacting GE Automation & Controls Technical Support.
Note:
For details on using the Proficy Machine Edition PLC Logic Developer programmer to
create and download the configuration for an RX3i PROFINET network and its IO devices,
refer to the PACSystems RX3i & RSTi-EP PROFINET I/O Controller Manual, GFK-2571.
Basic Configuration Steps
The basic configuration steps are:
•
Configure a PROFINET IO-Controller and its PROFINET LAN using the Controller manufacturer's
recommended PROFINET I/O configuration tool.
•
Configure the parameters of the PROFINET Controller.
•
Add IO-Devices to the LAN.
RX3i CEP and other types of IO-Devices use GSDML files to describe their capabilities. The
PROFINET I/O configuration tool imports these GSDML files and incorporates the devices into the
configuration.
Note:
These IO-Devices can be VersaMax or RX3i PROFINET Scanner modules, RX3i CEP
Carriers or third-party IO-Devices.
•
Configure the parameters of the RX3i CEP Carrier.
•
Configure the communications properties of the PROFINET IO-Controller and RX3i CEP.
•
Add RX3i I/O modules to the RX3i CEP remote nodes.
•
Configure the parameters of the modules.
•
When the configuration is ready, use a DCP tool to assign a name to the RX3i CEP so the
PROFINET IO Controller can connect to it and deliver the configuration.
•
Store the configuration data from the configuration tool to the PROFINET I/O Controller.
Configuration Tool
The configuration tool used to configure the PROFINET LAN containing the RX3i CEP Carriers must support IO
Devices configured with GSDML V2.3 files.
