    Instrument overview Instrument overview The Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit is used together with the programmable power supply (CWP-2000 or equivalent) and the circulating water bath (1023-0010, 1023-0020) or equivalent. The instrument can run gels of different sizes. For example, 240 × 203 mm (FR-9400, FR-9360) and 203 × 127 mm (FR-9120).

    (not included). Use the same kit and gel that you are planning to use for the samples. As the Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit is intended to control the gel processing condition, avoid warm exhaust air from other instruments when placing the instrument. Leave sufficient space behind the instrument for tubing and ventilation.

    Gel Electrophoresis Unit User Manual Installation Connecting the cooling system (single unit) The Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit contains connectors on both inlet and outlet tubing (male and female) (see Figure 9: Connecting tubing on page 13). The package contains tubing with the corresponding connectors to be used with the circulating water bath.

You can turn the device on the side to get better access to loosen the locking nuts. Adjust first the back feet to get the device on level sideways.

    Connecting the power supply Warning: The supplied DC cables are rated for 5000 V. Only use cables and adapters supplied with the Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit or ensure that they have a suitable DC insulation compliance for the used voltages.

Disposal of all waste should be in accordance with local regulations. Cooler setting Turn the circulating water bath on and set the desired temperature according to the kit insert. Allow time for the water to reach the desired temperature.

    Placing gel Pull the tray to the outward position. Ensure that the Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit's cooling plate is clean. Follow the kit insert instructions when positioning the gel to the cooling plate. You can use the grid to position the gel. Cathode wick needs to be positioned in the 0 position.

    Compare results with picture below. Gel bands should be straight and positioned similarly over the cooling plate. If there is anything that is not positioned correctly, please take a picture of the gel and send it to your local PerkinElmer representative to be investigated.

    Warning: Disconnect the external power supply before cleaning or servicing. Daily maintenance This section includes instructions for the daily maintenance of the Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit. Cleaning the cooling plate Wipe the cooling plate with watered paper towel (lint-free paper towel) and dry it. It is recommended to clean the cooling plate immediately after the run, and if required, also before the run.

    ® 2118-0010 - Migele Gel Electrophoresis Unit User Manual Maintenance Electrodes Electrodes should be wiped with watered paper lint-free towel once a day and also in between the runs to prevent the crystallisation of buffer salts, which can affect the run performance if not cleaned. We recommend you to monitor the electrodes and change the lid if the electrodes are worn out.
