1. Ensure the boiler is not currently firing and the flame rod is not hot.
2. Remove the boiler front panel.
3. Disconnect the wiring connection from the flame rod (located on the left side of the boiler).

4. On the control panel, press and hold the
Service Mode button for approximately
7 seconds.
5. The boiler initiates one start-up attempt and four restart attempts.
After the last start-up attempt, the boiler locks out and the gas valve shuts off. Code 501 No
Flame Detected appears on the controller display.
6. Reconnect the wiring connection to the flame rod. Be careful not to touch the inside of the
wiring connection.
7. Press the RESET button on the control panel.
8. The boiler should start up. If the boiler does not start up, contact Rinnai Customer Care at
1-800-621-9419.
9. Replace the boiler front panel.
