  • Page 13: Overview

The Innova 4900 is designed so that all normally required services and repairs can be performed from the front of the unit. This allows multiple units to be installed side by side for maximum space utilization.
  • Page 14 The Innova 4900 also has an RS-422 serial communications port and is compatible with the NBS AFS BioCommand supervisory software package. This provides the ultimate in remote monitoring command, and data collection capabilities. The Innova 4900 chamber has provisions for installing various combinations of shakers and lamp manifolds up to a combined total of four units (no more than two may be lamp manifolds).
  • Page 15: Input Power Requirements

Figure 2: Rear View Input Power Requirements The Innova 4900 may be operated from a 208-volt power source at 60 Hz, or a 220- or 240-volt power source at 50 or 60 Hz. Input voltage and frequency selection require the placing of three harness wires in the appropriate terminal blocks on the main electrical panel: this should be done only by qualified service personnel.
  • Page 16: Environmental Control Panel

Environmental Control Panel The environmental control panel is located on the righthand side of the Innova 4900 unit and is always the uppermost control panel (see Figure 1). START/STOP As illustrated in Figure 3 below, the keypad has four keys marked SELECT .

There are four function indicator lights (see Figure 3); one illuminates to indicate the parameter being displayed: Table 3: Function Indicators ºC Temperature Relative Humidity [no application for the Innova 4900] Alternate Temperature Setpoint M1197-0053 Innova 4900 Environmental Chamber User’s Guide...
  • Page 18: Refrigeration System

Refrigeration System The Innova 4900 is equipped with a 1/2 HP refrigeration system. The condensing unit is hermetically sealed and the evaporating temperature is closely regulated to prevent coil icing. A hot gas bypass system is employed along with an electric heater to precisely control the chamber temperature.

  • Page 23: Leveling

Leveling The Innova 4900 should be installed on a smooth, even surface. If it is not level on the floor, use shims as required to level the cabinet. This is essential to keep the cabinet from rocking and to avoid an out-of-balance situation that would shut down the shaker(s) within.
  • Page 24: Water Supply

Water Supply For proper control of relative humidity, the Innova 4900 requires a de-ionized water supply. The unit is shipped with a threaded “water in” coupling on the back, near the top. The accessory kit provided contains a threaded hose barb that mates with the “water in”...

5% RH above or below the setpoint. The alarm will automatically deactivate as the chamber achieves the set relative humidity. Alternate Temperature Setpoint If a lamp manifold option is installed, the Innova 4900 allows a secondary or alternate temperature setpoint to be entered: M1197-0053 Innova 4900 Environmental Chamber User’s Guide...
  • Page 26: Checking A Setpoint

NOTE: Channel 2 of the programmable electronic timer determines whether the Innova 4900 operates on the primary or alternate temperature setpoint. When the electronic timer display shows Channel 2 , the alternate setpoint is active. Consult your lamp manifold manual for detailed instructions on the use of the programmable timer.
  • Page 27: Excess Vibration Sensor

If unbalanced loads are operated at high speeds and/or the cabinet is not properly leveled, the Innova 4900 cabinet may rock or “walk”. The Innova 4900 is equipped with an acceleration (called “excess vibration”) sensor to detect vibration levels that could cause damage to the unit or its contents.
  • Page 28: Rs-422 Computer Interface

Doing otherwise may adversely affect the RS-422 computer interface. RS-422 Computer Interface The Innova 4900 may be interfaced to a computer for remote control via an RS-422 serial communications port. COMPUTER The RS422 connection is made via the 25-pin D connector labeled (see Figure 6b and Table 4B for pin-out and scale).
  • Page 29: Computer Interface Connector Pin-Out

NOTE: When Innova 4900 is computer-controlled, attempts to change setpoints from the Innova 4900 master control panel will be overridden by the computer. To regain local control, either disconnect the computer cable or change the setpoint fields at the computer to blank spaces.
  • Page 30: Setting The Rs-422 Multidrop Address

Setting the RS-422 Multidrop Address For remote computer control operation, the Innova 4900 must be assigned a multidrop address. To display or set the Innova 4900 multidrop address, press and hold down the START/STOP COMM key for one second. The...
  • Page 31: Maintenance & Cleaning

& & Routine Maintenance The Innova 4900 requires no routine mechanical maintenance on the part of the user. MAINT indicator light goes on 10,000 hours after the unit was last serviced. When MAINT you see the light, call your local NBS Service Engineer or call the NBS Service Department.
