NOTE: The used engine oil must be disposed of in a manner which
respects the environment. We recommend that you take it to a service
station who will ensure that it is recycled. Never dispose of used engine oil
in dustbins or pour it away on the ground, in the gutter or down the drains.
CHECKING THE SPARK PLUG
Standard plugs:
NGK
HRD536 - HRH536 BPR5ES
CAUTION:
• Use only recommended spark plug. Using spark plug with
inappropriate temperature ranges may damage the engine.
If the engine has just been run, do not touch the muffler and the
spark plug which will still be hot.
1. Pull off spark plug cap [1]
and remove spark plug [2]
using a plug wrench [3].
2. Inspect the spark plug.
Replace it if the electrodes
are worn or if the insulator
is cracked or chipped.
Clean the spark plug with a
wire brush if you are going
to reuse it.
3. Measure the plug gap using
a set of feeler gauges; the
gap must be between 0.7
and 0.8 mm. If adjustment
is necessary, carefully
bend the side electrode.
4. Install the spark plug
carefully, by hand, to avoid
cross-threading.
5. After the spark plug seats, tighten with a spark plug wrench to
compress the washer.
If reinstalling the old spark plug, tighten 1/8 to 1/4 turn after the
spark plug seats.
If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2 turn after the spark plug
seats to compress the washer.
6. Refit the spark plug cap.
CAUTION:
• A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine.
Overtightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the
cylinder head.
SPARK ARRESTER
(Optional part)
(In Europe and other countries where the machinery directive 2006/42/EC
is enforced, this cleaning should be done by your servicing dealer).
If the lawnmower has just been run, the muffler will still be very hot.
Allow it to cool down before carrying out this operation.
In some regions, it is prohibited to operate an engine without a spark
arrester. Check local regulations before using your lawnmower. A
spark arrester is available on option from Honda dealers.

SAFETY
1. Unscrew and remove
the two nuts [4] using a
10 mm socket wrench.
2. Remove the muffler
guard [5] and the
muffler [6], then the
insulation [8].
3. Remove the spark
arrester [7], taking care
not to damage the
grille.
4. If necessary, clean the
carbon deposits from
around the exhaust
port and spark arrester.
5. Refit the spark arrester
in the muffler.
6. Refit the insulation, the
muffler and the muffler
guard.
7. Fully retighten the two 10 mm nuts [4].
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
• It is recommended to ask your servicing
dealer for adjustment.
Specified idle speed: 1 700 ± 150 min
Operating speed: 2 800
ROTOSTOP SAFETY
LEVER CLEARANCE
Measure the clearance [9] at the top of
the lever [11] by holding the yellow
button [10] pressed in. It must be
between 5 and 10 mm.
If necessary:
1. Undo the lock nuts [12] with a 10 mm
spanner.
2. Move the nuts [12] up or down as
necessary.
3. Retighten the lock nuts [12] and
recheck the clearance.

4. Start the engine outdoors and
engage the cutting-means control
lever. Check that the cutting means
starts to rotate when you pull the
lever to the rear, and that it stops
rapidly when the lever is released. If
the cutting means does not start to
rotate or stop as it should, even
when the cable is correctly adjusted,
the system may need to be repaired.
Take the lawnmower to your
servicing dealer.
