Troubleshooting

If problems occur while operating the unit, check the
following before contacting your Sony service
representative.
Symptom
The unit does not turn on (the
POWER indicator does not
light).
The unit is not communicating
with the host computer.
Your software does not detect
the unit.
The TAPE ERROR indicator
is flashing (or lit) orange.
The DRIVE ERROR indicator
is flashing orange (or yellow).
Cause
The power switch is not in the ON position.
The power cord is not connected properly.
The host computer is not turned on.
The SCSI ID (CSMA-EX200S) or loop ID
(CSMA-EX230F) is not configured properly.
The unit and host computer are not
connected properly.
(CSMA-EX200S only) There are too many
devices connected on the SCSI bus.
(CSMA-EX200S only) An HVD device is
connected on the SCSI bus.
The software you are using does not support
this unit.
The software you are using is not installed
properly, or you have not configured the
software settings to enable use with this unit.
A media error has been detected.
A drive error has been detected.
Solution
Make sure that the power switch is in the ON
position.
Make sure that the power cord is properly
connected to the unit and power outlet.
Make sure that the host computer is turned on.
• When using the CSMA-EX200S, make sure that
each connected device has a unique SCSI ID.
(see page 42)
• When using the CSMA-EX230F, make sure that
the loop ID is configured properly. (see page 43)
• When using the CSMA-EX200S, make sure that
the unit and host computer are properly
connected via a SCSI cable, and that the
terminator is properly connected. Disconnect
the terminator and SCSI cable, and make sure
that none of the connector pins are bent or
missing. In addition, check the SCSI cable
length. (see page 46)
• When using the CSMA-EX230F, make sure that
the unit, host computer, and any hubs or
switches are properly connected via optical fiber
cable. (If the optical fiber cable is not connected
properly, the FC status indicator at the rear of
the unit lights orange.) In addition, make sure
that the unit supports the optical fiber cable you
are using. (see page 47)
Check the number of SCSI devices connected on
the SCSI bus. (There should be no more than 16
including the host computer.)
Make sure that all of the connected SCSI devices
are LVD devices. Connecting HVD devices to the
unit causes malfunction.
Make sure that your software supports this unit.
For details, consult your Sony service
representative.
Make sure that the software is properly installed
and configured on your host computer.
After pressing the EJECT button and removing
the cartridge, try restarting the unit and inserting a
new cartridge.
